For any of the below to work each resident must first complete an Individual Security Registration form and be issued with access. All activity is electronically logged and recorded for security audit purposes.
The below "Security Instructions" are also available for download to email or print.
All access points are operated by a Facial Recognition system to ensure only authorized individuals have access. Once a security registration has been completed and a profile activated the scanners at each point will automatically recognize authorized people and activate the relevant gate.
For vehicles the Facial Recognition also works but requires someone to get out of the car and use the scanner.
For conveniance vehicles can be fitted with an RFID sticker that opens the main entrance/exit gates automatically when the vehicle approaches. These stickers are charged at R25 each and are non-transferable once installed. RFID stickers are also only issued to resident vehicles or where regular warranted access is required.
These stickers must be installed by an authorized person and any tampering or transfer of the sticker will result in access being revoked immediately.
Both vehicle gates will only open halfway or less without a vehicle present. This is to ensure the gate only opens as much as needed for as long as needed to prevent outsiders sneaking in. To open the gate fully, a vehicle must be positioned over the relevant white sensor in the road at the time the gate is triggered. This function applies to all methods of operating the gate below.
Passive Infra Red Auto Close "PIRAC" mode means the gates will begin closing immediately after anything (even a hand) passes through the "beams". When the gate is open only half a meter and a person walks through even if the gate is still moving, it will immediately reverse and begin closing. The benefit is that it now only needs to close that half a meter and will be closed quicker while not leaving time for opportunistic outsiders to sneak in.
However, this means that pedestrians should not walk past a vehicle waiting for the gate to open as this will just close the gate again; rather wait for the vehicle to drive through and follow behind it.
The intercom uses the phone network to let visitors contact residents on their mobile phones. In order for this to work your telephone number must be programmed into the Intercom. The programming is done by the Security Manager after the Security Registration has been submitted and approved.
After a mobile number is registered on the intercom, Visitors can enter the Unit Number (displayed outside each front door) into the intercom. The intercom then phones the resident on the programmed phone number. Once the resident answers the call, the Intercom allows for a 30 second conversation during which the resident can press ”9” on their phone at any time to open the gate for the Visitor. To keep the gate closed just hang up or do nothing.
Remember the sensor determines if the gate opens fully or only partially. See "Pedestrian vs. Vehicles" above.
When a visitor wants to leave, the resident calls the intercom on the relevant number below from the phone registered on the intercom. The call is not answered and simply dropped after two rings, so no airtime is used for the resident. This enables the automatic Exit Sensor (closest to the gate, unmarked) and Exit Button for 2 minutes. The exit button glows red during this time. The visitor can now leave by foot using the exit button, or in a vehicle by driving over the sensors and the gate will open automatically. After the 2 minutes the red button stops glowing and the visitor can no longer exit.
"Private" numbers will not activate the exit feature as the intercom will not be able to identify the caller and ignore the call.
Time Square has two Intercoms, one at the front where the two main vehicle gates are and one at the back where the pedestrian gate to the park is. Both these intercoms work the same way as explained above. Except that they each have their own phone number so residents can differentiate which one is calling them or which one they want to call.
